The study was done with the aim of comparing  vaginismus-specific schema therapy (VSST) with conventional schema therapy (ST) method on sexual self-assertiveness and self-esteem in women with vaginismus disorder.
Materials and Methods: This research was a Quasi-Experimental design study with a pretest, posttest and follow-up with a control group. The statistical population was women with vaginismus disorder referred to the obstetric and gynecology clinic of Payambaran Hospital in 2021 in Tehran, Iran. Persian version of Halbert's sexual self-assertiveness questionnaires and female sexual self-esteem of Zinar and Schwarz SSEI-W were used to measure dependent variables. Two experiment groups were treated in 10 sessions of 90 minutes each, and the control group did not receive any intervention. The data were analyzed using variance analysis of Repeated measures ANOVA and Bonferroni's post-hoc test in SPSS software-22.
Findings: Both VSST and conventional ST had an effect on increasing sexual self-assertiveness (Eta=0.83) and self-esteem (Eta=0.94) in women with vaginismus disorder compared to the control group (p=0.001). According to the comparison of the difference between the means of the two intervention groups and the control group, the VSST had a greater effect on the improving self-assertiveness and sexual self-esteem of women than the conventional ST (p=0.001).
